Best Practices for the Storage of Security Inks

Low, medium, and high-security inks are essential in the production of printed materials that are susceptible to cloning, such as banknotes, passports, personal identification cards, and others. They are also crucial for printed materials whose written information can be altered, such as checks, lottery tickets, notarial deeds, and other documents that certify specific circumstances for particular individuals.

These inks protect against counterfeiting due to their exceptional physical and chemical characteristics. To ensure they maintain their quality over time, it is important to store them properly.

Here are some best practices for the storage of security inks, along with recommendations on how to maximize their lifespan:

1. Maintain a Stable Temperature

Security ink storage should be carried out in a temperature-controlled environment. Most of these inks are sensitive to temperature fluctuations and can deteriorate if exposed to extreme temperatures.

Recommendation:

  • Ideal temperature: Between 10°C and 25°C (50°F to 77°F).

Avoid: Exposing the inks to temperatures above 30°C (86°F) or below 5°C (41°F), as this could affect both their chemical composition and effectiveness.

Why is this important?

Excessive heat can cause the physical and chemical properties of the inks to degrade more quickly, reducing their reactivity. Additionally, low temperatures can cause the inks to thicken or harden, making them difficult to apply.

2. Storage in Dark and Dry Environments

3.Airtight Sealing and Appropriate Containers

4. Ink Agitation Before Use

5. Avoid Cross-Contamination

Proper storage of security inks is essential to preserve their effectiveness, appearance, and quality over time. By following these best practices, such as maintaining a controlled temperature, avoiding exposure to light, and ensuring proper sealing, you can maximize their lifespan.

Take care of your inks and ensure their effectiveness!
